We’re looking for a Yard Team Operative to join our Logistics team! Within this role, you’ll support operational activities at the Distribution Centre by ensuring safe, efficient yard operations. You’ll operate mechanical handling equipment (MHE), including Forklift Trucks (FLT) and Shunt vehicles, and maintain a secure environment for employees and visitors while upholding the company’s values. 

 

Shift pattern: Monday – Friday 10:00 – 18:00 

Salary: Please note, the salary if you do not hold an HGV license will be £24,959.33. If you do hold an HGV licence C (ideally C+E) the salary will be £26.977.60

 

Location: Our Logistics hub is located in Shaw, Oldham. It can be easily accessed via Tram, which is a just few minutes' walk away, and we also offer free car parking for anyone who wishes to drive to the site.

 

 What will you do as a Yard Team Operative at N Brown? 

  • Daily Inspections: Conduct daily checks on MHE and equipment, reporting faults to management. 

  • Trailer Movements: Safely execute and record trailer shunt movements as per procedures. 

  • Site Safety: Adhere to site safety protocols, including signage and traffic light instructions. 

  • Deliveries & Collections: Assist with loading/unloading and record pallet volumes. 

  • Traffic Management: Manage safe pedestrian and vehicle movement within site boundaries. 

  • Contractor Oversight: Ensure contractors follow site rules and safety protocols. 

  • Housekeeping & Safety: Maintain a clean yard and report any Health & Safety concerns immediately. 

  • Waste Management: Support the movement and loading of waste and recyclable materials. 

  • Vehicle Refuelling: Refuel vehicles as per SOPs and report any issues. 

  • Reporting: Submit daily trailer availability reports to the leadership team. 

  • Permit Management: Authorise work permits and ensure safe areas for vehicle maintenance. 

  • Shift Transition Support: Support the transition between the day shift and evening shifts (Shift A or B) as part of your role. 

  • Flexibility: Be prepared to provide cover for holidays and absences of Yard Team Operatives on Shift A or B. 

  • Teamwork: Collaborate with colleagues to manage daily workflow efficiently.

What skills and experience will you have? 

  • You’ll be proficient in written and spoken English for effective communication. 

  • You’ll have experience in a warehouse/distribution environment or operating similar equipment is preferred. 

  • You’ll have a full, valid driving licence. 

  • A valid HGV licence and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) card would be ideal, but training can be provided for the right candidate. 

  • Strong teamwork, communication, commercial awareness, and knowledge of Health & Safety practices.
